Captain Dave recently mounted the Tac-Star 2000 on his home defense shotgun and did some testing with it. Here's his report:

The Tac-Star 2000 weapons light mounted easily to the extended magazine tube of my shotgun in less than two minutes. The package not only included the Allen wrench you need for installation, but two sets of mounting hardware - one for thin rifle barrels, one for shotgun or other barrels that are wider in diameter.

I compared the brightness of the Tac-Star 2000 with two other lithium lights I had on hand and based on my non-scientific observations, it was equally bright as the industry standard lights. It is blinding and having it pointed at you from 20 yards on a dark night will have you seeing blotchy circles and stumbling around afterwards. The powerful light can be used to disorient and gain the advantage on an attacker, perhaps reducing the necessity of using lethal force during a confrontation. While the lens does offer some degree of focusing the beam from wide to narrow, it would not focus as narrowly as my Scorpion light. During testing, however, this did not seem to be an issue. In fact, it allowed me to light up a man-sized target and see movement of the hands while the front sight was on center of mass.

The pressure switch works well, and applying even a single finger's worth of pressure any where along its two-inch length caused the light to go on. It was easy to shine the light momentarily and then shift position with it off. I could point the gun at a poorly defined target, then use the light for a second or two to refine my aim and fire a quick shot, moving in the dark to another firing position.

The light held up well in my tests, but if you were to go out and shoot 100 rounds of skeet, I recommend taking the light off. No sense exposing the expensive bulb to that kind of repeated recoil.
